Metropolis Love

My move to New York has been more of confirmations than surprises. It is a city full of things I love. Subways, bike lanes, fruit stands, European chocolates at Bodega counters, are all things that endear me to a metropolis. This city abounds with them at a density I haven’t experienced before. So it has been a series of confirmations of things I enjoy, and less of surprising me with new. Ultimately what endeared me to Los Angeles was the unexpected. That urban sprawl was patched with beauty you discovered one block at a time.

In this past week I have come to know Manhattan in a different way. I leave the studio late, and mostly solitary, on my journey home. A commute which only consists of three parts by subway or bike (FLG or ManhattenBridgeBrooklyn). It’s pleasant though. The streets are empty (except FridaySaturday). I go without fear, a naive confidence in the street-lights perhaps, to make my way home. The absence of people, cars, and shuffle present a city not at sleep, but at rest. The city at night is easier to love than the city at day.

From this I want to create my first photo series. I want to show the Manhattan I have come to know.
